Overview

The Omicron strain inactivated COVID-19 vaccine (Vero cells) is a whole-virion inactivated vaccine developed to provide protection against the Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2. Produced using Vero cell culture technology, the virus is chemically inactivated (typically using beta-propiolactone) to render it non-infectious while preserving the structural integrity of its antigens, including the spike protein. This approach allows the immune system to recognize and mount a response against multiple viral components. Clinical development, including Phase 3 trials in China, has focused on evaluating its safety and immunogenicity as both a primary series in unvaccinated individuals and as a booster dose to address the immune evasion characteristics of the Omicron lineage.
