Drug intelligence / Profile preview
OMK2 is an ophthalmic solution formulated as a combination of citicoline, vitamin B12 (cyanocobalamin), and hyaluronic acid. Developed by Omikron Italia, it is designed to provide neuroprotection and promote neuroregeneration in various ocular conditions, particularly those involving nerve damage. Citicoline acts as an essential precursor in the synthesis of phosphatidylcholine, a key component of neuronal cell membranes, thereby supporting the structural integrity and function of retinal ganglion cells. Vitamin B12 facilitates the healing and myelination of corneal nerve fibers, which is often compromised in diabetic patients or following surgical procedures like corneal cross-linking. Hyaluronic acid is included for its mucomimetic and lubricating properties, which help stabilize the tear film and protect the ocular surface. OMK2 is primarily utilized to mitigate the progression of diabetic retinopathy and to accelerate the recovery of corneal sensitivity and nerve morphology.
