Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Omnisart-AM is a branded generic fixed-dose combination medication developed and manufactured by Omnica Laboratories, a pharmaceutical company based in Nepal. It contains two antihypertensive agents: olmesartan medoxomil, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB), and amlodipine besylate, a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker (CCB). Olmesartan medoxomil is a prodrug that is hydrolyzed to olmesartan, which selectively blocks the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor in vascular smooth muscle, thereby inhibiting vasoconstriction. Amlodipine inhibits the influx of calcium ions into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle cells, leading to peripheral vasodilation and reduced systemic vascular resistance. This combination is indicated for the treatment of hypertension, either as initial therapy or for patients not adequately controlled on single-agent therapy.
