Overview

Omoconazole is an azole antifungal drug of the imidazole class used topically to treat a variety of superficial fungal infections, including cutaneous candidiasis, dermatophytosis (such as tinea corporis and tinea pedis), and pityriasis versicolor[3][4][5]. It acts by inhibiting ergosterol biosynthesis in fungal cell membranes through inhibition of the enzyme lanosterol 14-alpha demethylase (CYP51), leading to increased membrane permeability and ultimately cell death[8]. Omoconazole is not available in the United States or Canada but is approved for use in several other countries. It is typically formulated as a topical cream at 1% concentration for direct application to affected skin areas[5]. The drug has demonstrated activity against dermatophytes, yeasts (including Candida albicans), Malassezia furfur, and molds[1][4].
