Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The OmpK36 vaccine is a recombinant protein subunit vaccine targeting the outer membrane protein K36 (OmpK36) of *Klebsiella pneumoniae*. Developed by the National Health Research Institutes (NHRI) of Taiwan, the vaccine is designed to prevent *K. pneumoniae* infections, particularly urinary tract infections (UTIs). It is formulated with PELC, a squalene-based oil-in-water emulsion adjuvant containing poly(ethylene glycol)-block-poly(lactide-co-ε-caprolactone) (PEG-b-PLACL) and Span 85, which enhances mucosal and systemic immune responses. Administered intranasally or subcutaneously, the vaccine induces OmpK36-specific IgG and IgA antibodies, providing protective immunity against *K. pneumoniae* infections.
