Overview

OMT-174 is a preclinical-stage small molecule therapeutic developed by OMEICOS Therapeutics. It is a synthetic analog of 17,18-epoxyeicosatetraenoic acid (17,18-EEQ), a naturally occurring metabolite of the omega-3 fatty acid eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). OMT-174 is designed to activate cell-protective pathways that stabilize mitochondrial function and enhance mitochondrial proteostasis. The compound is being investigated for the treatment of primary mitochondrial diseases, including Leigh syndrome and MELAS (Mitochondrial Encephalomyopathy, Lactic Acidosis, and Stroke-like episodes) syndrome, as well as for potential applications in oncology. By mimicking the biological effects of epoxyeicosanoids, OMT-174 aims to protect cells from oxidative stress and metabolic dysfunction.
