Overview

Onartuzumab is a humanized, monovalent monoclonal antibody that targets the proto-oncogene protein c-Met (also known as the scatter factor receptor kinase or MET). By binding to the extracellular domain of c-Met, onartuzumab prevents its natural ligand, hepatocyte growth factor (HGF), from activating the receptor. This inhibition blocks downstream signaling pathways involved in cell proliferation, survival, and migration in tumor cells expressing c-Met. Onartuzumab was developed primarily for oncology indications including non-small cell lung cancer and other solid tumors. It has demonstrated antitumor activity and antibody-like pharmacokinetics in preclinical and clinical studies but development has been discontinued for all major cancer indications.
