Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The once-daily trientine tetrahydrochloride formulation (900mg TETA 4HCl Once Daily Formulation) is an investigational oral formulation of trientine tetrahydrochloride (TETA 4HCl) developed by Orphalan for the treatment of Wilson's disease. Trientine tetrahydrochloride is a copper chelator that binds to excess copper ions in the body, forming a stable complex that is excreted in the urine. This once-daily formulation consists of 300mg trientine base tablets, allowing patients to take a single daily dose of 900mg (3 x 300mg tablets) instead of the twice-daily regimen required by the currently marketed Cuprior® formulation (150mg tablets). This once-daily dosing is designed to reduce the treatment burden and improve patient adherence. The formulation is currently being evaluated in Phase III clinical trials (such as the TRADITiONAL study) for the first-line treatment of Wilson's disease.
