Oncept

Oncept is a therapeutic DNA vaccine developed for veterinary use, specifically indicated for aiding in extending the survival of dogs diagnosed with stage II or III oral malignant melanoma. The vaccine functions by introducing plasmid DNA that expresses the gene coding for human tyrosinase. This human tyrosinase protein, which is overexpressed on melanoma cells, is then produced within the dog's body. This process stimulates the dog's immune system to recognize and mount a response against both the human tyrosinase and the structurally similar canine tyrosinase protein expressed by the melanoma cells, thereby targeting and potentially destroying cancerous cells. It is administered intramuscularly using a transdermal vaccination system.
