Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Oncobax BF is an oral live biotherapeutic product (LBP) consisting of a specific strain of the commensal bacterium *Bacteroides fragilis*. Developed by the French biotechnology company EverImmune, it is part of a pipeline of microbiome-based therapies designed to restore or enhance the efficacy of cancer immunotherapies, such as immune checkpoint inhibitors (e.g., anti-PD-1/PD-L1). The therapeutic rationale is based on the "gut-tumor axis," where specific gut bacteria prime the host's immune system to better recognize and attack malignant cells. Oncobax BF is specifically being developed for the treatment of breast cancer, following the company's lead candidate, Oncobax AK, which targets lung and kidney cancers.
