ONCObind is an extracorporeal blood filtration device designed to remove circulating tumor cells (CTCs) from the bloodstream of patients with metastatic cancer. The device uses a filter packed with ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene beads modified to contain endpoint-attached heparin, which mimics receptors on human cells that pathogens and CTCs target for attachment. As blood flows through the filter, CTCs are captured and adsorbed onto the surface of these beads and thereby removed from circulation. The technology is based on ExThera Medical’s Seraph® platform but specifically adapted for oncology applications[1][6][3]. ONCObind has demonstrated greater than 96% single-pass removal of CTCs in vitro and is currently being investigated in clinical trials for metastatic pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), with plans to expand to other cancers such as metastatic colorectal cancer[1][3][8].
