Overview
OncoHist is a recombinant human histone H1.3 (rhH1.3) therapeutic candidate being developed by Xenetic Biosciences for the treatment of refractory acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and other B-cell malignancies. The molecule is designed to exploit the biological observation that certain extracellular histones can selectively trigger apoptosis in malignant cells by binding to the cell surface and internalizing, while sparing healthy cells. Xenetic acquired the OncoHist platform through its acquisition of the German biotechnology company SymbioTec GmbH in 2012. The program has been advanced through collaborations with the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute to elucidate its mechanism of action and support regulatory filings, as well as through regional partnerships with SynBio and Pharmsynthez for development in Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
