Drug intelligence / Profile preview
OnePrep (also known as OnePrep 1.38 or 원프렙 1.38산) is a low-volume bowel-cleansing agent developed by Gunkang Pharmaceuticals and co-marketed with GC Green Cross Wellbeing. Approved in South Korea as an improved generic drug (개량신약), it is indicated for bowel preparation and colon cleansing prior to colonoscopy. OnePrep is a combination formulation consisting of D-sorbitol, ascorbic acid, and sodium picosulfate hydrate. It is designed to significantly reduce the required fluid intake compared to traditional polyethylene glycol (PEG)-based bowel preps, requiring a total volume of only 1.38 liters (including the reconstituted solution and additional water). The combination works through dual mechanisms: D-sorbitol and ascorbic acid act as osmotic laxatives that draw water into the intestinal lumen, while sodium picosulfate is hydrolyzed by colonic bacteria into its active metabolite, which stimulates colonic peristalsis. This synergistic action ensures effective colon cleansing with improved patient compliance and a pleasant lemon flavor.
