Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Onimex is a range of oral cough and cold medications developed and marketed by Emcee Pharmaceuticals, an Indian pharmaceutical company. The product line includes several generic formulations designed to treat productive cough and associated respiratory symptoms. The standard formulation, including the sugar-free variant **Onimex SF**, contains the mucolytic agent **ambroxol** and the expectorant **guaifenesin**. Ambroxol works by thinning and loosening respiratory secretions, while guaifenesin increases the volume and reduces the viscosity of mucus, making it easier to expel. The **Onimex CZ** variant combines ambroxol with the antihistamine **cetirizine**, which addresses allergic symptoms such as runny nose, sneezing, and congestion by antagonizing H1 receptors. These products are administered as liquid syrups and are widely available as commercial generic formulations in India.
