Overview

Opal-HIV-Gag is an autologous cell-based therapeutic vaccine developed by Medicines Development for Global Health for the treatment of HIV infection. The Overlapping Peptide-pulsed Autologous Cells (Opal) technology involves the ex vivo pulsing of a patient's own peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) or whole blood with a library of overlapping peptides derived from the HIV-1 Gag protein (specifically Clade C). These sensitized cells are then re-infused into the patient to prime and expand HIV-specific CD4+ and CD8+ T-cell responses. This immunotherapy aims to enhance the host's ability to control viral replication, potentially reducing the reliance on lifelong antiretroviral therapy.
