Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Opaviraline is a small molecule non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI) that was developed for the treatment of HIV infections. It acts by inhibiting the activity of HIV reverse transcriptase, thereby blocking viral replication. The drug reached phase II clinical trials in Germany, South Africa, and the United Kingdom but development was discontinued and it is not marketed. Opaviraline displays time-dependent pharmacokinetics with a relatively long plasma half-life suitable for once-daily dosing[2][4][5][7].
