Overview

OPC-14117 is a small molecule drug developed as a lipophilic free radical scavenger and lipid peroxidation inhibitor. It was initially developed by Otsuka Pharmaceutical for neuroprotection in conditions such as cerebral ischemia and traumatic brain injury. The drug concentrates in the brain and has shown efficacy in reducing secondary cellular damage and cognitive dysfunction following cortical contusion in animal models. Its primary mechanism involves scavenging superoxide radicals to protect neuronal tissue from oxidative stress[3][8][5].
