OPG-specific siRNA is a small interfering RNA (siRNA) designed to target and knock down the expression of osteoprotegerin (OPG, also known as TNFRSF11B). OPG is a decoy receptor for receptor activator of nuclear factor-κB ligand (RANKL) and plays a critical role in bone remodeling by inhibiting osteoclastogenesis. In oncology research, OPG-specific siRNA is utilized to investigate the role of endogenous OPG in tumor progression and metastasis, particularly in breast cancer cells where OPG expression is regulated by NF-κB. Knockdown of OPG using this siRNA has been shown to significantly reduce metastasis in in vivo models, suggesting that targeting OPG could be a potential therapeutic strategy for certain breast cancer subtypes.
