Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ophiopogon Decoction Granules (PZ-019) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formulation being developed by Yunnan Baiyao Group. It is classified as a Category 3.1 new TCM, which refers to classic prescriptions with a long history of clinical use that are being developed into modern dosage forms. The formulation is based on the "Maimendong Tang" (Ophiopogon Decoction), a classic prescription from the *Synopsis of Prescriptions of the Golden Chamber* (Jin Gui Yao Lue). It typically consists of six herbal ingredients: Ophiopogon japonicus (Maimendong), Pinellia ternata (Banxia), Oryza sativa (Gengmi), Ziziphus jujuba (Dazao), Panax ginseng (Renshen), and Glycyrrhiza uralensis (Gancao). It is traditionally used to treat "lung wilting" (lung yin deficiency) characterized by coughing, wheezing, and dry throat. Yunnan Baiyao is currently conducting IND-enabling research, focusing on process optimization for commercial-scale production.
