Overview

Ophthalmoferon is a combination ophthalmic solution developed by the Russian pharmaceutical company Firn M for the treatment of viral and allergic eye diseases. The formulation contains recombinant human interferon alfa-2b and diphenhydramine. Interferon alfa-2b acts as an agonist at the interferon alpha/beta receptor (IFNAR), inducing antiviral, immunomodulatory, and antiproliferative responses that are effective against pathogens such as adenovirus and herpes simplex virus. Diphenhydramine is a small molecule antihistamine that antagonizes the histamine H1 receptor, providing symptomatic relief from allergic inflammation, itching, and edema. Ophthalmoferon is approved and marketed in Russia and other regions for indications including viral conjunctivitis, keratitis, and allergic conjunctivitis.
