The vaccine utilizes Vaxine's proprietary **Advax** adjuvant, a delta-inulin-based polysaccharide, to enhance the immune response against small opioid molecules. The primary mechanism of action involves stimulating the production of high-affinity antibodies that circulate in the bloodstream and specifically bind to opioid molecules (such as fentanyl, heroin, or oxycodone). By forming large antibody-drug complexes, the vaccine prevents these opioids from crossing the blood-brain barrier and entering the central nervous system. This sequestration effectively blocks the euphoric and respiratory-depressant effects of the drugs, potentially preventing overdose and reducing the incentive for drug-seeking behavior. The program is currently in the **preclinical** stage of development.
