Opiranserin is a first-in-class, non-opioid, non-narcotic analgesic developed by Vivozon for the intravenous treatment of postoperative pain. It acts as a multifunctional small molecule that selectively blocks glycine transporter type 2 (GlyT2), antagonizes purine P2X3 receptors, and antagonizes serotonin 5-HT2A receptors. By targeting these pathways, Opiranserin modulates both central and peripheral pain signaling with the aim to provide effective pain relief while reducing or replacing opioid use after surgery. The drug has demonstrated synergistic analgesic effects by inhibiting key targets in the spinal cord involved in pain transmission and regulation. Opiranserin was approved for post-operative pain management in South Korea in December 2024 and is undergoing further clinical development globally[1][4][7].
