OPK-8801003 is a long-acting peptide analog of glucagon-like peptide 2 (GLP-2) being co-developed by Entera Bio and OPKO Health as a potential first-in-class oral therapy for short bowel syndrome (SBS). Preclinical studies indicate that OPK-8801003 has a substantially prolonged circulating half-life compared with native GLP-2 and teduglutide, supporting development both as a once-weekly subcutaneous injection and as a once-daily oral tablet formulation. The goal is to enhance intestinal growth and nutrient absorption through sustained GLP-2 receptor agonism, offering SBS patients an oral alternative to current parenteral GLP-2 therapies.
