Overview

OPK-8801004 is a long-acting parathyroid hormone (PTH) replacement therapy being developed by OPKO Biologics for the treatment of hypoparathyroidism. The drug utilizes OPKO's proprietary C-terminal peptide (CTP) technology, which involves the fusion of the C-terminal peptide of the human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) beta subunit to the PTH molecule. This modification is designed to significantly extend the serum half-life of the hormone, potentially allowing for once-weekly subcutaneous administration instead of the daily injections required by conventional PTH therapies. OPK-8801004 acts as an agonist at the PTH receptor, helping to maintain calcium and phosphate homeostasis in patients with PTH deficiency. Additionally, OPKO is collaborating with Entera Bio to develop an oral formulation of this long-acting PTH variant using Entera's N-Tab delivery platform.
