Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Oplex-N is a combination cough syrup developed and manufactured by Pharco Pharmaceuticals and its subsidiary Amriya Pharmaceutical Industries. It is formulated for the symptomatic relief of both dry and productive (chesty) coughs, particularly those associated with respiratory tract infections, irritation, or allergic reactions. The formulation contains three active ingredients: oxomemazine, a first-generation phenothiazine antihistamine with central antitussive and sedative properties; guaifenesin, an expectorant that reduces the viscosity of bronchial secretions to facilitate mucus clearance; and sodium benzoate, which acts as an expectorant and preservative. Unlike the original Oplex formulation, Oplex-N does not contain paracetamol (acetaminophen), allowing it to be safely co-administered with other paracetamol-containing cold and flu remedies without the risk of accidental overdose.
