OPM-201 is a potent, highly selective, and brain-penetrant small molecule inhibitor of Leucine-Rich Repeat Kinase 2 (LRRK2). Developed by Oncodesign Precision Medicine (OPM) and licensed to Servier, it is currently in Phase 1 clinical development for the treatment of Parkinson's disease. LRRK2 is a key genetic target in Parkinson's; mutations in the LRRK2 gene, such as G2019S, lead to increased kinase activity which is associated with neurodegeneration and the accumulation of alpha-synuclein. By inhibiting LRRK2, OPM-201 aims to slow or stop the progression of the disease in both patients with specific genetic mutations and potentially those with idiopathic Parkinson's disease. The compound was discovered using OPM's Nanocyclix technology platform, which specializes in the design of macrocyclic kinase inhibitors.
