OPN-FMRP is a first-in-class small molecule inhibitor targeting the fragile X messenger ribonucleoprotein 1 (FMRP), an RNA-binding protein that is aberrantly overexpressed in a significant fraction of human tumors. FMRP has been shown to mediate immune evasion by suppressing proinflammatory signals and preventing T cell infiltration into tumors, thereby allowing cancer cells to escape immune attack. By inhibiting FMRP, OPN-FMRP aims to convert immunologically "cold" tumors (with poor T cell infiltration) into "hot" tumors that are susceptible to T cell-mediated immune destruction. The drug is being developed by Opna Bio for oncology indications, with the goal of overcoming tumor resistance to immunotherapies and enhancing anti-tumor immunity[1][2][3].
