Overview

opn peptide 1 is a peptide-based vaccine designed to target integrin binding sites of Osteopontin (OPN), an inflammatory cytokine implicated in obesity-linked complications such as adipose tissue inflammation, insulin resistance, atherosclerosis, and cardiovascular disease. The vaccine was developed as an active immunotherapy to potentially reduce metabolic tissue inflammation, insulin resistance, and atherosclerosis. However, studies in murine models (cardio-metabolic Ldlr-/- mice and diet-induced obesity WT mice) showed no improvement in atherosclerosis, insulin resistance, or adipose tissue inflammation. This lack of efficacy was attributed to a failure to induce antibodies capable of binding epitopes within the context of functional OPN protein.
