OPN peptide 4 refers to an osteopontin (OPN)-derived peptide, also described as OP3-4 in the literature, investigated for its potential to modulate bone regeneration and inflammation. OP3-4 is a synthetic peptide that specifically binds to the RANKL (Receptor Activator of Nuclear Factor κB Ligand), inhibiting osteoclast activation (bone resorption) and promoting osteoblast differentiation (bone formation). It is being explored as a therapeutic agent for bone injury and regeneration, often delivered via sustained-release hydrogel systems. While OPN peptides have also been explored in immunization studies targeting metabolic and cardiovascular diseases, peptide 4 (in immunization experiments named Pep 4) did not show efficacy in reducing insulin resistance, inflammation, or atherosclerosis in preclinical models[1][2].
