Overview

OPS-gdT is an investigational immunotherapy platform developed for the treatment of bone cancers, particularly osteosarcoma and secondary bone cancers. The therapy utilizes gamma-delta T (gdT) cells, a rare subset of immune cells derived from healthy donor blood. These gdT cells are engineered to release tumor-targeting antibodies and immune-stimulating cytokines, enhancing their ability to recognize and kill cancer cells in the bone. Unlike conventional CAR-T therapies that use a patient’s own immune cells, OPS-gdT offers an “off-the-shelf” approach using donor-derived gdT cells, which have been shown to be safe without causing graft-versus-host disease. Preclinical studies in mouse models demonstrated that OPS-gdT outperformed conventional immunotherapies in controlling osteosarcoma growth, especially when combined with a bone-sensitizing drug. The platform is being advanced by researchers at University College London (UCL), with plans for early-phase clinical trials targeting secondary bone cancers[1][2][6].
