Drug intelligence / Profile preview
OpsiSporin is an investigational sustained‑release formulation of cyclosporin designed for long-acting local treatment of non-infectious uveitis. Using Midatech’s Q-Sphera-style microencapsulation/depot technology, cyclosporin is encapsulated in biodegradable polymer microspheres to provide controlled release in ocular tissues, with the aim of maintaining therapeutic immunosuppressive levels at the site of inflammation while minimizing systemic exposure and steroid-related side effects.[12][4][10] Preclinical in vivo proof‑of‑concept studies have shown prolonged intraocular cyclosporin delivery and activity consistent with treatment of chronic uveitis, but the program has remained at an early, preclinical/translation stage and has not progressed to late-stage clinical development.[12][4][8]
