OPT101 is a novel 15-amino acid peptide derived from the CD154 protein, developed by Op-T for the treatment of type 1 diabetes mellitus and other autoimmune/inflammatory conditions. Its mechanism of action involves modulation of the CD40 antigen pathway, specifically acting as a stimulant or modulator to reduce pathogenic T cell (Th40) activity and chronic inflammation associated with beta-cell destruction in type 1 diabetes. Preclinical studies and early clinical trials suggest that targeting CD40-mediated inflammation may help preserve pancreatic function and reduce insulin requirements. The drug is being evaluated in both intravenous and subcutaneous formulations, with ongoing Phase 2 trials in type 1 diabetes patients and Phase 1 studies in sepsis/pneumonia[1][3][7][8].
