Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Optagold is an oral antioxidant and micronutrient supplement formulated to support eye health and reduce the risk of progression of age-related eye diseases, such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and cataracts. It is a fixed-dose combination modeled on the AREDS2 (Age-Related Eye Disease Study 2) formulation, containing vitamin C, vitamin E, lutein, copper, and zinc. Vitamin C and vitamin E act as potent antioxidants that scavenge harmful free radicals in the lens and retina. Lutein, a carotenoid concentrated in the macula, helps protect the retinal tissue from oxidative and light-induced damage. Zinc serves as an essential cofactor for numerous ocular enzymes, while copper is included to prevent zinc-induced copper deficiency and associated anemia. Optagold is developed and marketed by Ibn Sina Pharmaceuticals in Bangladesh.
