Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Optalidon is a historical **small molecule combination analgesic** product marketed by **Sandoz** for the symptomatic relief of pain and associated nervous excitability or restlessness, including conditions such as headache, toothache, and neuralgia. The product contains **amidopyrine** (also called **aminopyrine**), a pyrazolone analgesic and antipyretic; **butalbital**, a barbiturate with sedative central nervous system depressant activity; and **caffeine**, a methylxanthine stimulant included to counterbalance sedation and support analgesic efficacy. As a fixed-dose combination, its therapeutic effect is primarily based on analgesia plus sedation for tension-related pain states rather than a single precisely defined molecular target, and it was historically supplied in formulations including **tablets** and **suppositories** in multiple international markets.
