Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Opti-Free Express No Rub MPS is a multipurpose disinfecting solution (MPDS) for soft contact lenses, originally developed and manufactured by Alcon. It features a dual-disinfectant system consisting of Polyquad (polyquaternium-1) and Aldox (myristamidopropyldimethylamine). Polyquad is a large-molecule quaternary ammonium germicide that minimizes uptake into the lens matrix, while Aldox is a biocidal agent effective against fungi and protozoa like Acanthamoeba. The formulation includes citrate and Tetronic 1304 to facilitate cleaning and protein removal, allowing for a "no rub" regimen where lenses are cleaned and disinfected through soaking alone. Innovative Medical has utilized this solution as a reference standard in Phase 4 clinical trials to evaluate the performance of new lens care products.
