Opticyte Matrix is a human extracellular matrix allograft derived from amniotic tissue, specifically the amnion layer of the placenta. It is minimally processed to preserve the biological characteristics and protein-rich structure of native amniotic tissue. The product acts as a biological bandage and protective barrier for the ocular surface, particularly for corneal defects and injuries. Its primary indications include use as a supplemental protective barrier in patients with dry eye disease, corneal and stromal ulcerations, pterygium excisions, conjunctival surface reconstruction, limbal stem cell deficiency or epithelial defects. The matrix supports cell attachment and ingrowth during healing while minimizing scarring and promoting re-epithelialization. It is shelf-stable at room temperature for up to five years and can be applied using absorbable sutures, biologic adhesives, or contact lenses[1][2][3][4][5][7].
