Drug intelligence / Profile preview
OptiFiber is a branded generic combination medication developed and marketed by Precia Pharma for the treatment of constipation and gastropathy. It consists of two active ingredients: ispaghula husk, a bulk-forming laxative, and lactitol monohydrate, an osmotic laxative. Ispaghula husk works by absorbing water in the gastrointestinal tract to increase stool bulk and promote peristalsis, while lactitol monohydrate is a synthetic sugar alcohol that draws water into the intestine through osmosis, softening the stool and facilitating easier passage. The product is formulated as orange-flavored effervescent granules for oral administration and acts locally within the gut with minimal systemic absorption.
