Optimal Medical Care-First Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University-peripheral arterial disease-atherosclerosis refers to a specific therapeutic regimen evaluated in a Phase 1/2 clinical trial for the treatment of femoropopliteal peripheral artery disease (PAD) and atherosclerosis. The regimen consists of sonodynamic therapy (SDT) combined with standard optimal medical care (OMC). The SDT component utilizes sinoporphyrin sodium (DVDMS), a porphyrin-derived sonosensitizer, which is administered intravenously and subsequently activated by targeted low-intensity ultrasound (1.0 MHz) at the site of atherosclerotic lesions. This activation generates reactive oxygen species (ROS) that reduce plaque inflammation and neovascularization by targeting macrophages and endothelial cells. The OMC component includes daily oral administration of aspirin (100 mg) and atorvastatin (20 mg), along with antihypertensive medication as required. Developed by the First Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University, this integrated approach aims to stabilize atherosclerotic plaques and increase peak walking time in patients suffering from intermittent claudication.
