Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Optive Advanced (often marketed as Refresh Optive Advanced) is a triple-action lubricant eye drop formulation developed by Allergan (now part of AbbVie) for the treatment of dry eye syndrome. It is designed to address all three layers of the tear film: the mucoaqueous layer (via carboxymethylcellulose sodium and glycerin) and the lipid layer (via polysorbate 80). The formulation acts as a lubricant to reduce friction, a humectant to hydrate the ocular surface, and an osmoprotectant to protect corneal epithelial cells from hypertonic stress. It is specifically indicated for the temporary relief of burning, irritation, and discomfort due to dryness of the eye or exposure to environmental factors such as wind and sun.
