Overview
Optive UD is a preservative-free artificial tear formulation developed by Allergan (now AbbVie) for the symptomatic relief of dry eye and ocular surface irritation. The formulation contains carboxymethylcellulose sodium (0.5%) and glycerin (0.9%) as active lubricating ingredients. It functions as a mucomimetic and lubricant, increasing tear film stability and providing a protective layer over the corneal and conjunctival epithelium. In clinical research, specifically a Phase 2/3 study (NCT01799863) conducted by Fundação Altino Ventura, Optive UD was utilized as a control arm to evaluate the efficacy of lubricating drops in managing the signs and symptoms of acute viral conjunctivitis compared to a ketorolac-based combination therapy.
