Optune Lua is a wearable, portable, FDA-approved medical device that delivers Tumor Treating Fields (TTFields) therapy. TTFields are low-intensity, alternating electric fields that disrupt cancer cell division by exerting physical forces on the electrically charged components of dividing cancer cells, leading to cell death. The device is indicated for use in adult patients with metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (mNSCLC) who have progressed on or after a platinum-based regimen and is used concurrently with PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors (immunotherapy) or docetaxel. It is also approved for the treatment of adult patients with unresectable, locally advanced or metastatic malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM), to be used together with pemetrexed and platinum-based chemotherapy. Optune Lua does not enter the bloodstream and primarily causes local skin irritation as its main side effect[1][3][5][7].
