Drug intelligence / Profile preview
ORADUR-oxymorphone is a reformulated, oral, extended-release version of the semi-synthetic opioid analgesic oxymorphone that uses Durect’s ORADUR biodegradable depot/abuse-deterrent technology to provide controlled delivery of the active drug over an extended period for the management of moderate to severe chronic pain. Oxymorphone is a potent mu-opioid receptor agonist that alters pain perception and response in the central nervous system, with higher lipophilicity and rapid CNS penetration compared with morphine, while the ORADUR matrix is designed to resist common methods of tampering and to reduce abuse by crushing, snorting, or injection.[1][3][7]
