Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Orafang is an oral sulfate-based bowel preparation agent developed by Pharmbio Korea, formulated as a tablet to improve patient compliance and tolerability compared to large-volume liquid purgatives. It contains a combination of anhydrous sodium sulfate, potassium sulfate, and magnesium sulfate, which function as osmotic laxatives by increasing the water content in the intestinal lumen. The formulation also includes simethicone, an anti-foaming agent that reduces gas bubbles in the colon, thereby improving mucosal visibility during colonoscopy. Orafang is primarily used for bowel cleansing prior to colonoscopy or colorectal surgery and has been studied for safety and efficacy in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and the elderly.
