Overview
Oral GIP Nonpeptide is an investigational, orally bioavailable, nonpeptide small molecule agonist of the glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) receptor, currently under development by Crinetics Pharmaceuticals. The GIP receptor is a G protein-coupled receptor that, upon activation by the GIP hormone, stimulates glucose-dependent insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells and plays a significant role in lipid metabolism and energy homeostasis. By utilizing a nonpeptide small molecule approach, Crinetics aims to provide an oral alternative to the currently available injectable peptide-based GIP and GLP-1 therapies. This program is specifically targeted toward the treatment of metabolic disorders, including type 2 diabetes and obesity, with the goal of improving patient convenience and adherence compared to parenteral administrations.
