Oral GLP-1

Oral GLP-1 (Biora Therapeutics) is an oral drug-device combination candidate that utilizes Biora Therapeutics' (formerly Progenity) PGTx/OBDS (Oral Biotherapeutics Delivery System) platform to deliver a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist. The OBDS is an autonomous, ingestible capsule designed to navigate the gastrointestinal tract and trigger delivery in the small intestine. Upon activation, the device uses a needle-free liquid jet to inject the biologic payload directly into the submucosal layer of the intestinal wall, bypassing gastric degradation and achieving systemic bioavailability comparable to subcutaneous injection. The GLP-1 component acts as an agonist at the GLP-1 receptor, stimulating insulin secretion, inhibiting glucagon release, and slowing gastric emptying, which are key mechanisms for managing type 2 diabetes and obesity. This technology aims to provide a more convenient oral alternative to traditional injectable biologics.
