Drug intelligence / Profile preview
US Biologic is developing an oral influenza vaccine using its proprietary OrisBio platform technology. The vaccine utilizes recombinant *Bacillus subtilis* spores that express influenza virus antigens. This platform is designed to protect the antigens from the harsh, acidic environment of the stomach, allowing for targeted delivery and release in the duodenum. Once released, the antigens induce both mucosal and systemic immune responses. Developed in partnership with the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) under the "Beyond the Needle" program, the vaccine is intended to be thermostable, eliminating the need for refrigeration and needle-based administration, which could facilitate at-home delivery and improved pandemic preparedness.
