Overview
BioKangtai's oral pentavalent reassortant rotavirus live attenuated vaccine (Vero cell) is a prophylactic biologic candidate developed by Shenzhen Kangtai Biological Products and its subsidiary, Beijing Minhai Biotechnology. The vaccine is designed to prevent rotavirus-induced gastroenteritis and diarrhea in infants and young children. It utilizes reassortant technology, incorporating five human-bovine rotavirus reassortant strains that target the most common serotypes: G1, G2, G3, G4, and P[8]. Unlike some traditional rotavirus vaccines produced in primary cells, this formulation is manufactured using a continuous Vero cell substrate. As of 2024, the vaccine is in Phase 3 clinical development in China, aiming to provide a domestically produced alternative to international pentavalent vaccines like Merck's RotaTeq.
