Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Oral-Pro is an approved anthelmintic medication developed by Aurora Pharmaceutical for the treatment of human parasitic helminth infections, specifically pinworms (Enterobius vermicularis). The active ingredient is pyrantel pamoate, a small molecule that acts as a depolarizing neuromuscular blocking agent. It works by inducing spastic paralysis in the parasitic worms through the activation of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors on their muscle cells. This immobilization prevents the worms from maintaining their grip on the intestinal wall, allowing the host's body to naturally eliminate them through defecation. The medication is formulated as a vanilla custard-flavored oral suspension containing 50 mg/mL of pyrantel base and is indicated for use in adults and children aged 2 years and older.
