Oral uricase is an oral biologic enzyme therapy being developed by Matwings for the treatment of hyperuricemia. The drug is designed to enzymatically degrade uric acid within the gastrointestinal tract, thereby reducing systemic blood uric acid levels. A significant technical feature of this program is its six-fold improved stability in the small intestine compared to conventional uricase formulations. In preclinical models, the therapy demonstrated a 54.4% reduction in blood uric acid in mice and a 39.6% reduction in rats. The program aims to provide a non-invasive, oral alternative to injectable uricase therapies for managing chronic gout and other hyperuricemic conditions.
