Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Oralvisc is a patented, proprietary oral formulation of glycosaminoglycans (primarily hyaluronic acid and dermatan sulfate) and Vitamin C, developed by Bioiberica and distributed in Canada by Medexus Pharmaceuticals. It is marketed as a dietary supplement and natural health product designed to support joint health, reduce joint pain, and improve joint function in individuals with osteoarthritis of the knee, particularly those who are overweight or obese. Oralvisc works by binding to CD44 receptors to inhibit adipogenesis and promote chondrocyte features, while also reducing levels of leptin (an adipokine that contributes to joint inflammation and cartilage destruction) and other pro-inflammatory mediators (such as bradykinin) in both serum and synovial fluid, thereby alleviating joint discomfort and improving mobility.
